Vacant and abandoned property can threaten a community’s future, diminish its quality of life, reduce property values, and jeopardize public safety.
The Detroit Vacant Property Campaign (DVPC) is developing real solutions to reduce the negative effects of vacant property by building a coalition of community groups, nonprofit organizations, government officials, and business leaders.
The DVPC was formed by Community Legal Resources, Detroit Local Initiatives Support Corporation, Community Development Advocates of Detroit, and the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning to advance strategies to turn vacant properties into neighborhood assets.
The DVPC is an initiative of Detroit Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) and led by Community Legal Resources (CLR).
The Detroit Vacant Property Campaign Tool Box is just one of the resources available to fill information gaps and empower neighborhoods to take control in order to stabilize conditions.
The Tool Box provides tips and resources to:
- Educate homebuyers and homeowners about mortgage, property tax, and foreclosure processes to keep homeowners in their homes and avoid additional vacancies
- Help neighbors develop a well-organized Vacant Property Strategy that includes inventory and assessment of vacant homes
- Help build neighborhood capacity
- Retain residents, and much more
